ChatGPT ads have arrived

After months of speculation, OpenAI has officially introduced ads into ChatGPT for US users.

The ads are clearly labelled as sponsored content and feature prominent brand favicons, though the format differs slightly from earlier expectations. More notable, however, is the price tag. Reports suggest rates as high as $60 CPM, with minimum commitments around $200,000. Partners such as Shopify are also offering access through Shop Campaigns for brands looking to test the space.

OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap has described the rollout as an “iterative process,” meaning the experience – for both brands and users – is likely to evolve.

While current pricing may limit access to large brands, the signal is clear: AI chat interfaces are turning into ad platforms.
