What makes a good writer?

Anyone can say they’re a writer but Silx’s recruitment process tells the story of what makes a good one. After reviewing portfolios and conducting test assignments, usually only three of every ten writers qualify.

There is so much to consider, from industry expertise for our top clients to research skills. Long-form articles and thought pieces need to be thoroughly looked into and fact-checked. Then it’s the writers’ storytelling ability; they need to be able to weave a solid narrative and engage a reader throughout.

Personality and passion comes into it too. A fashion writer needs to live and breathe clothes, whereas a fintech journalist should obviously know everything about financial markets and business.

Painstaking attention to detail is key too; although they might be working with an editor, writers are still required to use flawless spelling and grammar. Now the question is, did a good writer write this?
